Description

Given the continuous increase of autistic students in Hong Kong, it is necessary to foster an inclusive society and campus, in particular at the primary school level. AUTDOOR, an Interactive Social Learning system with a cooperating selling booth, adopts vegetable selling as a training approach to assist autistic children and their ordinary peers in going outside the community and communicating with the public both physically and virtually. The selling booth contains a transparent TV and facial tracking camera for virtual selling, meanwhile training their speech ability and emotional cognition skills. The off-campus selling service by AUTDOOR ensures authentic and intensive training for autistic children. It also enhances self-confidence of autistic children who can engage and establish a social network with neighbours in the community. Most importantly, AUTDOOR provides an opportunity for the public to understand and empathize autism and foster an inclusive society in the long run.
