Using Calligraphy to Listen the Stories Under Epidemic

“Hearing Stories in ink”

Many people have the opportunity to be infected under the epidemic. In the recovery process of some infected people, they all have different stories and feelings, which may also bring them influence. They may need a way to have their stories of infecting the Omicron heard by others. However, these stories have not received enough attention in our community, and there is no container to listen, tell and to share them. My project is to use calligraphy as a container for these stories to be shared and gathered in a workshop. Storytellers can talk about some of the profound experiences that happened during the home quarantine and to write down a sentence that summarizes their stories. These stories and words will be shared in the "Hearing Stories in Ink" workshop so that listeners can listen and understand the stories through slow writing in calligraphy. Finally, the storytellers and listeners will meet and chat with each other in an online sharing session.

PolyU spent many millions of dollars to ensure block V was certified as a green building. However, its interior is grey and gloomy. A spontaneous "green corner" has appeared in the building over recent years and added a touch of life to it. This ‘green corner’ contains plants grown in recycled media as well as in traditional pots. They are grown by some of the staff of this building, including the often unnoticed cleaning workers. As we learned more about their story and the reasons behind their planting, we asked ourselves: Can we build relationships through potted plants? In the project, we spread planting knowledge and enthusiasm as we connect a group of people to grow and look after plants together. Through the project, Not only will they grow the plants, but they will also develop as individuals. Additionally, they will strengthen their bonds with their families and friends by planting together, and broaden their social circle by meeting new people in the community.
