Description

The narrative project is a reinterpretation of a family's story through generations living in one building over centuries. By choosing the site at 190 Nathan Road, the uchronia illustrates an alternative future based on the life of the original family. It speculates of how people through time embraced different ways of using space which transformed their home to access certain modifications of society. Nowadays, Hong Kong is undergoing the struggle between the preservation of cultural heritage alongside the inevitable growth and expansion of the city itself. Since the announcement of the demolition of 190 Nathan Road has been released, many have tried to preserve this old building from being destroyed. Based on historical facts about 190 Nathan Road, this project reflects on archiving nostalgia as the spirit of times and the lifestyles of the ages, creating a journey back to the old Hong Kong towards a new story of spatial occupation.
