Description

Because the dense building and limited land resources, the development of urban area is restricted in Hong Kong. Underground is seen as a solution to deal with land shortages. Hong Kong has a lot of abandoned historical underground space. Those space can provide additional land resources. However, these environments of underground space are often flawed. Insufficient air and natural light make a worse impression on users. It leads them reluctant to stay in underground space. The design of the project is inspired by the biological structure of eggshell. Creating a unique and porous underground building. Light and air are allowed to permeate into space while maintaining a thin and strong structure. Also, it enables people to walk on the structure. Giving a new image for the historically-built underground spaces.
