Description

THE EMIGRANT FACTORY situates under a city where mass emigration has caused an extensive shortage of labour, a new border policy is proposed: All foreign visas can only be applied at the border. The project studies the existing steps and procedure for emigrants and immigrants. The flow of human, information and materials during the process. The process is then translated into various chapters of moments in the HK International Airport. These moments invade and transform the Airport into an emigrant factory, that receive and process outbound visa applications instantly as well as processing arriving immigrants on another level. The design aims to translate the complexity of visa application physically into the existing border facility. The border is no longer an imaginary line or array of counter but re-imagined into a complex system
