Description

Hong Kong public housing used to designed by the idea of allocating the community in close proximity to enhance interaction. However, nowadays public housing design tends to be even more condensed, standard and modular in its design. Most of the apartments are isolated and the arrangement of spaces leave little scope for a collective neighbourhood feeling. How could we reconnect the community spatially? How could spaces be arranged and organized to create visual relationships to facilitate communal awareness ? Could our visual sense of spatial understanding become a method to organize spaces? The project aims to create spatial sequences and configurations based on the notion of visual perception to generate a new form of community within public housing. At the same time, the design proposal will investigate the idea of how Hong Kong housing units can be improved in terms of spatial connectivity and linkage between each other.
