Description

A Card-Game Simulation of the Bicycle Parking Space Problem in Yuen Long

The messy bicycle parking space in Yuen Long is related to cyclists’ improper parking styles and the diverse blocking objects left by non-cyclists: chairs, trolleys, suitcase, etc. These parking styles and blocking objects form a complex arrangement which looks like chaos, and which can only be comprehended with patient observations and analyses. This project tries to negotiate this problem with a card-game simulation. The designed card game does not aim at forcing users to change their “wrong” behaviors; instead, it facilitates the users to reflect on the impact of one single action on the others’, and therefore help them understand how apparently insignificant moves of objects are indeed closely linked to each other to form a chaotic whole. The project pursues a modification, not of behaviors, but of common sense and social consciousness.

由非單車停泊者遺留的物品，例如桌子、椅子、推車等，和錯誤的停泊方式會在元朗組成一個混亂的單車停泊處。這些停泊方式和物品透過觀察、分析後出現多種複雜的組合形態而最終形成一個無秩序狀態的單車停泊處。項目計劃透過卡牌模擬情況去幫助人們了解以上問題。卡牌主要不是改變人們的“錯誤"行為，而是讓人們反思他們的單一動作所帶來的整體連鎖影響，從而理解他們一個微不足道的動作是與最終組成混亂的單車停泊處是互相連繫。在最後，整個項目不是追求做到改變人們的“錯誤"行為而是希望做到改變人們對停車的社會意識。
