Description

The kitchen is one of the most important spaces we use in our daily life from ancient times up until now and in the forthcoming future. However, the social aspects of the kitchen as a gathering place are disappearing and becoming marginalized. In the past, the room for preparing and cooking food was not only an optimally designed workspace but also a meeting space where communal customs and new technologies converged. Thus, the project aims to act as a narrative chronicle for people to remember the social ability of a kitchen and speculate on its future role as a common space. Through the explorations of different kitchen types, design, and their transformations over centuries, a representational method was developed to envision the diversity of social-technical relationships between humans and the kitchen, encouraging a critical discourse of its future outlook as a societal space maker.
