Description

The project is a domestic food scraps recycling program, which aims at turning the food waste into organic resources via the native Bokashi fermentation technology, which is participatory, odourless and effective. At present, most of Hong Kong’s food waste is disposed of at landfills and the recycling rate is horrendously low at 0.05%. Domestic food waste, which occupies 70% of total food waste generation, is the primary issue to tackle. After thorough analyses of community assets and various stakeholders’ pain points and desires, the project selects primary schools as the first, being analysed as the most effective, strategic intervention point. We construct gamified user experiences on a digital learning platform, and offer a spatial design for Bokashi workshop and co-planting, in order to guide the students and their families to participate in food scraps recycling, making possible the knowledge transfer to the community, and inducing collective behavioural changes.
