Description

Design brief

In the workplace, the function of television is rather limited, and it is mostly used as a presentation tool. In addition, most work-desks include a display for digital information, such as a PC or laptop monitor, and desk surfaces are often covered with papers and stationary. In this collaboration, TCL tasked students to change the working style of the workplace by developing a flexible TV to boost productivity, enhance interaction between employees, increase the utility of TV in the workplace, and decrease clutter on desks.

Design Outcome

Students designed TVable, which has a divisible, flexible, and rollable TV screen. Its other design features include a smart stick, which allows the screen to fold and roll automatically, and a touch-bar control panel.

Workers can use TVable in four modes: in individual mode, as a laptop on which to complete tasks; in collaborative mode, as a table-top screen on which to brainstorm ideas with colleagues; in assist mode, by exploiting the smart bar to display essential information and preview emails; and in idea-presentation mode, as a combined TV screen.
