Description

Assistive Oral Care Equipment for Self-care Impaired In-patients in Hospital

In Hong Kong, the number of long term patients is rising; this type of patient include paralysed, a tube inserted and elderly. Most of this group of patients need oral care assist because lacking self -care ability. Besides, oral health is one of the critical treatment for patients to avoid infect pneumonia. Using q-tibs is the only way for cleaning, which is not enough for providing fine oral care to maintain good health. Therefore, this project aims to provide five treatments for the caring parts like teeth, tongue, gum, lips and implant teeth. EX501 is a set of cleaning tools for the patients, which has different handles for each caring parts, adjustable hardness for different patient's need and less disposable part for the environment but keeping the best hygiene.

在日常生活中，口腔清潔是不可缺少的一環。對於良好的口腔健康而言，有些程序是絕對不可忽視的，例如：早晚清潔、清潔舌苔和牙肉按摩等。可是，在香港的醫院和護老院，有一群病人的口腔健康是一直被忽視一失去自理能力的病人。現時，應用在這一群病人身上的口腔護理方法就只靠綿花棒配合消毒藥水，但由於綿花棒只有一種形狀和硬度，因此它絕不能全面照顧每一個口腔部位，例如：牙齦、牙齒表面、舌頭和口腔內側。在另一角度而言，醫護人員在多年來一直使用綿花棒替病人清潔口腔，證明了它亦有其優勝之處並且無可取代的。本設計項目的靈感源自於綿花棒的優點，透過改良它們的缺點，設計一系列的口腔護理用具，此產品的設計核心為：個人化、可循環使用和衛生。希望透過這產品使護理人員使用時更加舒適，同時能透過針對性的清潔為病人帶來良好的口腔健康。
